Hey, it's Abishai, owner of Wisteria Records & member of The Dorkenheimers & Carcinogenic Dreams. Here's a song that I made for my high school graduation, which occurred on June 1st, 2018; the initial performance for the graduation blew up a few eardrums. Here is the stream for my graduation: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik9TveyW-wM
Aside from surprisingly being quite enjoyable, which I'd never thought I would say about a graduation ceremony (such ceremonies are boring, usually), I also performed an all-new track at the ceremony as well (the graduating seniors were given a chance to perform some songs at the ceremony; in total, I think it was seven students, counting myself, who performed some music during the ceremony). The song is called "Tsunami," and it was a song that was made in the last two hours before the ceremony (except for the intro, which was recorded the night before the ceremony). The song is a Neo-Psychedelic Noise Rock & Shoegaze track with Blackgaze influences. Conscious influences were Skullflower (for the timbre, noise and atmosphere), Ramleh (for the noise), Blut Aus Nord (for the atmosphere and guitar lines), Slowdive (again, timbre, atmosphere and guitar lines), Agalloch (for the intro) & The Gerogerigegege (for the guitar lines, noise, timbre, and atmosphere); subconscious influences were Pantera (again, for the intro), Nine Inch Nails (again for the intro), & Burzum (for the atmosphere and guitar lines). The backing track that I made during the last two hours before the ceremony consisted of an acoustic guitar and bass intro, and the main backing track consisted of FM Radio wankery, vinyl manipulation, guitar noise, a bass riff, a cheap drum machine, shoegaze guitar drones, and vocal drones. I introduce the song at 1:20:15, but the actual song doesn't start until 1:23:25 (due to technical difficulties). When it does, the sudden noise along with the sudden crescendo in volume made the audience jump and cover their ears, and yeah, the gym got loud! I thought I was trolling the audience and pissing them off, but to my surprise, not only did I get applause, but I also got a standing ovation from faculty, staff, my fellow graduates, and a lot of the other audience. Some of my classmates thought that was incredible and wanted me to play it again at the Project Graduation thing that I attended later that night (I didn't because I was too drowsy, haha), some who've heard some of my music before said that was one of the best things I ever made, and some asked why I wasn't making film scores. Heck, even the Dean, despite initially covering his ears on impulse, later said that "Tsunami" was quite beautiful. Some of the OG Punks at the ceremony whom I talked to, afterwards, said that was one of the most punk things they ever saw, and I can kinda agree with that; here I was, in a ceremony that mainly consisted of speeches, singer-songwriter craft, show tunes, and beautiful Modern Classical pieces (I actually really liked those pieces, haha), making some beautiful music as well, only it was filled with some psychedelic noise, was pretty fucking loud, and was filled with an overstimulating atmosphere that made even the energetic 80-year old drunk man wooing the other musicians sit his arse down. Almost as hilarious as that one time my fellow musician Philip Best performed a vulgar Power Electronics show at his school's battle of the bands/talent show/thingamajig when he was 14 (as documented on Consumer Electronics' Public Attack album).
This studio version is the third and final version of the song, much different from the first demo and the second demo (the one performed at the ceremony). It's filled with psychedelic noise and overstimulating textures, designed to create one wild experience for the listener. I hope you enjoy this studio version of what is now one of my favorite creations.
Sincerely,
Abishai
